The LG Gpad 8.3 is one of the more popular tablets from the stables of LG last year. However LG has been struggling to roll out updates to even the higher end flagship G2. So the GPad has been relegated to Q3 this year for their Lollipop update. But what if you can’t wait to get the latest taste of Lollipop on your device? Then we have some really good news for you. The devs at XDA have released Lollipop for the G PAd 8.3 in the form of a custom ROM. Yes people, we now have unofficial CyanoenMod 12 nightlies running on the G Pad 8.3. Want to know more? Join us after the break.
- Your LG Gpad 8.3 must have root access.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like latest TWRP or CWM. Latest TWRP installations can be found from here.
- Your tablet should be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions!!
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
Boot into recovery mode. To do so, power off your tablet. Press and hold Volume Down and Power, all at the same time. Release the buttons only when the Fastboot / Bootloader Mode menu appears. Use one of the Volume buttons to change the START text to Recovery Mode. When Recovery Mode option is listed in the above part of the Fastboot Mode menu you can press Power. The custom TWRP / CWM Recovery menu should now appear.
Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery.
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.(includes Dalvik Cache)
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package by navigating to the SD card and choosing the GAPPs zip.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t worry.
Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.
And there you have it! Lollipop running smooth as ever on the LG Gpad 8.3. If you have any comments or questions leave them in the comments down below. We will be happy to answer them for you!
We leave you now and as a parting gift, here are a few screenshots.
