As we know that Google has only released Android L Developer Preview for its Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. However, the developers have managed to port the upcoming major Android version to a couple of non-Nexus devices from the official source code. The first non-Nexus device to receive an unofficial Android L Developer preview update was HTC One (M7). Today, an another non-Nexus device is added to the list of receiving Android L Developer preview build. LG Optimus G is the second device to get the Android L taste. Luckily, if you own LG G Optimus then you can easily update it to Android L Developer Preview. In this article, we are going to show you a step-wise guide on “How to update LG Optimus G E975 to Android L Developer Preview“.

Note: This build has some serious bugs because it’s still in alpha stage. In case, if you are thinking to go for a regular use then seriously it’s not recommended. Well, you can just try out for some time to check out the features and revamped UI of upcoming major Android version.


  • It’s recommended to charge your device battery up to 70%.
  • Ensure that you have enabled “USB Debugging” on your device.
  • Your device must be rooted and CWM/TWRP Recovery installed on it.
  • Your system must contain appropriate USB drivers.

Steps To Update LG Optimus G E975 to Android L Developer Preview

Step 1: Download “Android L Developer Preview” ROM file on your system.

Step 2: Copy the downloaded file to your device memory.

Step 3: Switch off your device.

Step 4: It’s time to boot your device into “Recovery Mode”.

For that, you have to press and hold “Volume Down + Power button” for a few seconds. You will get a bootloader screen and from there, select “Recovery“.

Note: In the Recovery mode, use the Volume keys to move up/down and the Power key to select a highlighted item.

Step 5: Now you have to perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.

Then go to “advanced options in CWM Recovery” from there select “wipe Dalvik Cache“. That’s it!

Step 6: Now, go to the main menu choose “install zip from SD card” > Select ROM (Which you have downloaded and placed in internal storage) > give “Yes” for confirmation.

The process will take 3-5 minutes to install the ROM so wait for the whole process to complete.

Step 7: Finally, go back to the main menu and select “reboot system” now.

Note: The phone will take 10-15 minutes to start and initialize all the services & apps because this is the first time you are starting a phone.
