The Xperia line up is in quite some doldrums with Sony recently announcing plans that it may have to sell off part of it’s mobile handset business. While that bodes bad tidings for all of us Xperia fans, what does it mean for us the owners of Xperia devices? Sony will probably drop support for all older devices and the Z1 C might be stuck at Kitkat. However, the devs at XDA have come up with CyanogenMod 12 for the Z1 C. So rejoice Z1 C owners, for we now have Lollipop!
- Your Xperia Z1 C must have root access.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like latest TWRP or CWM.
- A computer with Fastboot installed along with ADB drivers.
- Your phone should be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions!!
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
We have to boot into the Fastboot mode to flash the kernel. To do so, power off the phone. Then hold the volume up button and plug USB into your PC to boot into fastboot. The blue led on your phone will glow signifying it has successfully booted into fastboot mode
On your PC extract the downloaded CM zip. Inside you’ll find the boot.img file.
From fastboot, push the fastboot, img file to your device by executing the following code
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that part is complete, we will now have to reboot fastboot using this command
For the next part we will need to enter recovery mode.Power off your device. The while you power it on, while booting led will be violet for 3 seconds, during this period press volume up.
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.(includes Dalvik Cache)
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package by navigating to the SD card and choosing the GAPPs zip.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t worry.
Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.
And there you have it! Lollipop running smooth as ever on the Xperia Z1 Compact. If you have any comments or questions leave them in the comments down below. We will be happy to answer them for you!
