How to Update your Oppo Find 7 to Lollipop

The Oppo Find 7 was Oppo’s flagship device for 2014. available in two versions, the 7A and the 7S, won much acclain for the fantastic hardware that they packed inside. Oppo’s very own Color OS ran the show on the software front. However 2014 has rolled into 2015 and it’s been nearly 4 months since Android L was outed by Google. The officials of Oppo remain tight-lipped about the OS upgrade and when it would arrive.  If you find yourself in such a precarious situation, then a Custom ROM may be your path to salvation. And as such, we have one for you today. The developers of CanogenMod has brought CM 12 and Lollipop to both the Find 7s.

Pre requisites

  • Your Oppo Find 7 must have root access. You can find it in this article.
  • You must have a custom recovery installed, like latest TWRP or CWM. The later part ofthis should help you out with that.
  • Your phone should be charged over 80%.
  • Some common sense and ability to follow instructions!!

  • Download the latest nightly from here.
  • Download the GAPPs from here or here.

With that done, let’s get this show on the road.

Step 1

Boot into recovery mode. Turn off the phone. Hold down volume down and power until it vibrates then let go to get into recovery mode.

Step 2

Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery.

Step 3

Do a complete wipe, data and cache.(includes Dalvik Cache)

Step 4

Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)

Step 5

If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package by navigating to the SD card and choosing the GAPPs zip.

Step 6

Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t worry.

Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.

And with that you’re done! Congratulations on having the latest and greatest in Android right here on your Oppo Find 7. Keep in mind though that this is beta software and as such may have the occasional bugs here and there. Also I would suggest you to download and install the latest nightlies. however remember to make a backup from your recovery so you’ve something to fall back on just in case
