Like many other Samsung devices, the relatively new galaxy Tab 4 has been left by the company to gather dust in neglect. However for those of you Tab 4 owners out there, who want to get a taste of the latest version of Android on your device, we have a bit of good news. The devs at XDA have come up with a Lollipop build of CyanogenMod 12 for your device. Now while this is based on AOSP and hence the user interlace differs completely from Touchwiz, yet I’m sure you will find Lollipop and CM much more fluid and easier to use, not to mention snappier in performance. So without further ado, let’s dive right into it!
- Your Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 must be rooted with it’s boot loader unlocked.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like TWRP or CWM.
- Your phone must be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions.
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
Boot into recovery mode. To do so you’ll have to power off your device. Boot in recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Power Button and Home Button at the same time. Release all buttons when the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 screen flickers and in a few seconds the Recovery screen will appear.
Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery.
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t panic.
Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.
Remember folks this is an alpha ROM and as such various bugs may exist. Be sure to report them to this thread on XDA here. If you enjoyed the ROM leave a comment down below!
