How to Update the Galaxy Note 8.0 to Lollipop

The Galaxy Note 8.0 has been one of the best selling tablets that have come equipped with a stylus. But sadly couple of years from release, Samsung has all but forgotten about this Note 8 tablet. As a result an official release of Lollipop seems very unlikely for this tablet. However if you happen to have one of these in your possession, do not fear for the good devs at XDA have come up with a version of CyanogenMod 12 for this tablet! Hoover there is a caveat to this! You will loose all S Pen functionality. So proceed if you can live without it!

Pre requisites

  • Your Galaxy Note 8.01 must have root access. You can find and article for that from here!
  • You must have a custom recovery installed, like latest TWRP or CWM. Please make sure that you use the kitkat version of the custom recovery!
  • Your tablet should be charged over 80%.
  • Your bootloader must be unlocked!
  • Some common sense and ability to follow instructions!!

  • Download the latest nightly from here.
  • Download the GAPPs from here or here.

With that done, let’s get this show on the road.

Step 1

Boot into recovery mode. . In order to enter recovery mode, you will first have to turn off your device. Once it’s turned off, press volume up + power button + home button simultaneously and keep them pressed until you see the recovery mode. Once you’re there, get your hands off the buttons. This is everything you have to do and it might require a bit of skill, but after you do it for a few times it will feel much easier.

Step 2

Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery.

Step 3

Do a complete wipe, data and cache.(includes Dalvik Cache)

Step 4

Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)

Step 5

If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package by navigating to the SD card and choosing the GAPPs zip.

Step 6

Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t worry.

Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.

And there you have it! Lollipop running smooth as ever on the Galaxy Note 8.0
