The Xperia Arc was one of the last phones from the stables of the Sony Ericsson company. After that Sony split up and while the Xperia line continues till date, support for the Arc has been officially discontinued. However not to be daunted by that, the devs at CyanogenMod 12 have come up with Lollipop for this little warrior. So now all the Xperia Arc owners around the world can rejoice as even this 2011 star can get to run the latest and greatest from the house of Google.
- Your Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc must have root access.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like latest TWRP or CWM.
- A computer with Fastboot installed along with ADB drivers.
- Your phone should be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions!!
- Download the latest nightly from here.
- Download the GAPPs from here,
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
We have to boot into the Fastboot mode to flash the kernel. To do so, power off the phone. Then hold the volume up button and plug USB into your PC to boot into fastboot. The blue led on your phone will glow signifying it has successfully booted into fastboot mode
On your PC extract the downloaded CM zip. Inside you’ll find the boot.img file.
From fastboot, push the fastboot, img file to your device by executing the following code
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that part is complete, we will now have to reboot fastboot using this command
For the next part we will need to enter recovery mode.Power off your device. The while you power it on, while booting led will be violet for 3 seconds, during this period press the volume rovkers a few times.
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.(includes Dalvik Cache)
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package by navigating to the SD card and choosing the GAPPs zip.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t worry.
Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.
And with that you’re done! Congratulations on having the latest and greatest in Android right here on your Xperia Arc. Keep in mind though that this is beta software and as such may have the occasional bugs here and there. Also I would suggest you to download and install the latest nightlies. however remember to make a backup from your recovery so you’ve something to fall back on just in case.
