The Android 4.4 flagship was put into the waiting queue for long time for the latest confectionery from Google to arrive and when it did arrive, many of you who did a manual flash, might have lost the root access. Now that’s something to root for. The Google Nexus 5 is now running on Android 5.0 Lollipop and it was nothing but a formality for the new piece of software to get attention from the root lord. Chainfire has released new root tools for all the devices rocking the latest update including the Nexus 5!

Nexus_5_(1)The Nexus 5 shares a lot of love coming from both the developers and  the customers as well. Talking about the development it has been receiving across the forums, you should not waste a single minute to get along with it. In order to do that, you’ll need to root your phone i.e. to get the best out of it.

Before we really get along with the rooting process, let’s take a minute and setup some tools up that’ll be necessary to get the job done smooth and easy:

  1. Make sure you have backed up all your data as this process(which includes a recovery flash!) might lead to loss of data.
  2. You’ll need to have ADB and Fastboot drivers onto your system. You can refer our All Drivers page for download links.
  3. Download the ClockworkMod Recovery, the modified boot image and the SuperSU zip file.
  4. Extract the contents of the modified boot zip file and extract boot.img and place the CWM and boot.img files in the fastboot folder of your PC.
  5. Put the SuperSU zip file in the root folder of your phone’s storage.

Done with the pre-requisites, let’s begin with the action!

  1. Boot your phone up in Fastboot mode.
  2. Navigate to the Fastboot folder on your pc and open a command window there by a right click menu while keeping the shift key pressed.
  3. Connect your phone(which is booted in Fastboot mode) to your PC and prepare for the flashy action!
  4. Let’s flash the custom recovery first!
In the command window, enter the following command:

    fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-
  5. Now we should flash the modified boot image.
In the command window, enter the following command:

    fastboot flash boot boot.img
  6. Now that your phone is booting a custom recovery with a chainfire made custom kernel, select recovery mode from boot and enter the recovery mode.
  7. Select “Install zip from SD card” and navigate further and select the SuperSU zip file which you placed in your phone’s root directory while doing the pre-flashing preparations.
  8. Install the zip and navigate back to the recovery menu and hit “Reboot system now”.
  9. Voila! You’re home!

If you’ve gone through all the steps above in the order they have been provided, you should be having your Nexus 5 rooted! Enjoy root access on your phone, hit the forums and get the most out of it! Do leave us a word in the comments section for any queries.
