The Moto G is an excellent phone for the lower midrange segment. The beefy hardware and software combo keeps the device afloat in the world of Xiaomis and Yurekas. But sometimes being good just isn’t enough. For some people, who demand that bit extra, we present to you today, Cyanogen Mod 12, on the Moto G. I can already here the collective groans and sighs, CM 12? Not again! But even though the G 2nd Gen has received the Lollipop update in most parts of the world, yet AOSP Lollipop is full of various bugs. And this is where CM 12 steps in and takes center stage. From the annoying no mute option to the RAM leaks, CM 12 offers a solution for nearly every possible gripe you could have. Also with the latest Nightlies adding support for the theme engine, customisation has never been this easy before. So what are you guys waiting for? Without further ado let’s see how we can get CM 12 running on the Moto G 2nd gen.
- Your Moto G 2014 must be rooted with it’s boot loader unlocked. Check out this link to know how to do that.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like TWRP or CWM.
- Your phone must be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions.
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
Boot into recovery mode. To do so, power off your phone. To do reboot your phone into recovery mode, hold the Volume Up and Power Button
Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery.
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t panic.
- GPS (device only) requires a signal lock from stock to function correctly or this.
This is a custom ROM so bugs and features may appear in further nightly builds. if you’re the sort to dirty flash updates of nightlies, then please remember to take a backup before you do so. Questions or comments? Leave them in the comment box below.
