Launched at an impressive price point of 7,000 INR the Moto E 1st Gen is a stellar phone for those budget and brand concious at the same time. It does come with refreshed hardware from the 1st gen with a beefier processor and substantial improvements on the optics too. Infact the second gen product has a 5mp AF snapper on the back with a VGA front cam. However stock Android even with the Lollipop embellishments may feel a tad too vanilla and boring for some. For those tweakers and themers we now have the CyanogenMod 12 from the devs at XDA. With the the theme engine supported, customisation has never been easier. Along with all of that are the in-baked features that CM provides. So are you guys excited for this Custom ROm? I know I am, so let’s dive right into the first ROM ever made, for our very own Moto E, 1st Gen!
- Your Moto E 2014 must be rooted with it’s boot loader unlocked. Check out this link to know how to do that.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like TWRP or CWM.
- Your phone must be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions.
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
Boot into recovery mode. To do so, power off your phone. To do reboot your phone into recovery mode, hold the Volume Up and Power Button
Backup your current ROM from your custom recovery. This is very important in case something goes wrong, you can always revert back to the backup!
Do a complete wipe, data and cache.
Navigate to your SD Card and select the ROM zip file. Flash the ROM. (For your convenience we advise that you keep the zip file at the root of your SD card)
If you’re so inclined, flash the GAPPs package.
Reboot. The first boot will take longer than others so don’t panic.
Root : From CM 12 root permissions can be enable by going into settings>developer settings.
This is a custom ROM so bugs and features may appear in further nightly builds. If you’re the sort to dirty flash updates of nightlies, then please remember to take a backup before you do so. Questions or comments? Leave them in the comment box below. We will be sure to get back to you!
