In this article, we will be guiding you through the complete process on installing Android 4.4 Kitkat on Sony Xperia Z. If you are not a beginner user then you must be knowing the process to install the ROM but for the beginner users, we will define the process as well as some tips before getting through the ROM. Necessary Things to Perform:
1. Your mobile should have 70 – 80% battery
2. Make sure that you have enabled USB debugging.
For Android 4.1.2 version:
- All apps > Settings > Manage Applications > Development > USB Debugging – check box
For Android 4.2.2 version:
- All Apps > Settings > About Phone > Navigate to Build number > Tap “Build number” 7 times and you’ll get pop-up as “You are now a developer”.
- All Apps > Settings > System > Developer Options and Android Debugging – check box
3. The phone must be unlocked, rooted and CWM Recover is installed.
4. Ensure you have backed up your important data.
Procedure To Install Custom ROM on Sony Xperia Z
1: Download AOSP ROM and then the downloaded file into an external SD card.
2: Switch off your phone and boot into CWM Recovery by “pressing and holding Power button and wait for the Sony logo to come up, then press the Volume Up button several times.” In the Recovery mode, use the Volume keys to move up/down and the Power key to select a highlighted item.
3: Now, perform a full data wipe by selecting “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition“ and then go to advanced from there select “wipe Dalvik Cache“.
4: Now, go to the main menu choose “install zip from SD card” > Select ROM File (Which you have downloaded and placed in SD card) > give Yes for confirmation. The process will take 3-5 minutes to install the ROM so wait for the whole process to complete.
5: Finally, go back to the main menu and select “reboot system” now.
